About Alonso Flores

Alonso Flores is one of El Salvador’s most tender voices in naive painting, cherished for his serene visions of village life cradled by the country’s mountain ranges. His path to art unfolded almost by chance. After listening to a lecture by the celebrated painter Fausto Pérez, Alonso approached him with a quiet yearning: “I believe I once had a gift for drawing. If I begin again now, would you guide me?” Fausto agreed—and with that simple question, a profound artistic journey began.

Alonso’s canvases breathe with memories of his native village, a quiet, charmingly rustic, and intimate place. At their heart is nature itself: tall trees rising like guardians, hills rolling in soft succession, and skies alive with the drama of dawn and dusk. Human figures appear—children on their way to school, women balancing baskets, a farmer scattering feed for his chickens—but they are gentle presences, secondary to the landscapes that dominate the scene. In each painting, light becomes one of the main characters: some works bask in the clarity of midday, others shimmer with the tender glow of sunset.

True to the spirit of naïve art, Alonso paints with simplicity, sincerity, and an idealized devotion to beauty. His sense of perspective is restrained, often using the placement of trees to guide the eye, creating an almost dreamlike sense of scale. The effect is quietly enchanting: his paintings invite the viewer to pause, to breathe, and to marvel in stillness.

Collectors from around the world are drawn to the quiet charm and refinement of Alonso’s art—scenes that radiate warmth, tranquility, and the timeless poetry of everyday life. His work stands alongside that of his mentor Fausto Pérez, whose name shines brightly in El Salvador’s rich and prolific naïve art tradition.
