Lucia Buccini
Lucia Buccini’s story unfolds like one of her own paintings, quiet, luminous, and rooted in the earth. Born in a small village near Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais, she spent her early years surrounded by fields, winding roads, and the gentle rhythm of rural life. For many years she worked as a secretary, until painting called to her later in life, transforming memory into color and devotion into art.
Today, Buccini is celebrated for her exquisite detail and radiant portrayals of the villages and landscapes of her homeland. Her signature triptychs are sweeping panoramas stretched across three panels, separated by slender breaths of space that invite the eye to wander and deepen both perspective and wonder. Each monumental work requires five to six months of patient labor.
Like fellow Brazilian naive masters Mara Toledo, Ana Maria Diaz, Edivaldo, and Barbara Rochlitz, Buccini paints with a profound love for the land. Her canvases honor rural traditions and elevate everyday village life, revealing beauty in the ordinary and poetry in every path, roofline, and tree.
