About Valeriy Parachod
Parchod was (born 1955 in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan) is a self-taught artist best known for his work in the naive art tradition. After a formal early career, including military training and service, he turned to painting in the early 1970s and gradually developed a highly personal vision. His paintings often evoke a nostalgic, dream-like provincial world: steamboats and steamships, elegant promenaders along flowering riverbanks, quaint houses, and playful animals populate his compositions. Using bright, local colors, simplified shapes, decorative symmetry, and rhythmic detail, Parachod creates scenes that are both gently humorous and charged with serene happiness. His works balance a wistful idealization of life with touches of sweetness and absurdity, delivering an atmosphere of longing for simpler times. He has exhibited in Moscow, Vienna, Kaluga, and elsewhere; his works are included in Moscow’s Museum of Naive Art and in private collections in Russia and abroad.
