Edivaldo Barbosa de Souza
Edivaldo is a Brazilian naïve artist born in the forested region of Brazil. His paintings are filled with breathtaking landscapes. As a child, he was captivated by the natural beauty of the jungle: the mist rising from lakes, dense foliage, and the quiet magic of nature.

At age nine, his family moved to the outskirts of São Paulo near a nature reserve. Even closer to the city, the area retained a deep connection to nature. At sixteen, Edivaldo worked as a delivery boy for a graphic design studio in São Paulo. One day, his employers noticed him sketching. Impressed by his talent, they encouraged him to create an art piece over the weekend. He returned Monday with a drawing that caught their attention and that of a local gallery owner. Recognizing his potential, the gallery owner gave him canvases, brushes, and acrylics, urging him to start painting. This moment launched his career.

Edivaldo has since become one of Brazil’s leading naïve artists, with collectors both in Brazil and abroad. His work celebrates the Brazilian narrative, its people, land, and everyday life. Whether depicting villagers boating across lakes or residents crossing makeshift bridges, his paintings are rich with warmth, memory, and a deep connection to a simpler, bygone age.
